McGowens was drafted by Minnesota Timberwolves in the 2nd round (10th pick, 40th overall) of the 2022 NBA Draft. Draft day he was then traded to the Charlotte Hornets. He was waived by the Hornets in 2024. He signed a two-way contract with the New Orleans Pelicans for 2025 and has played in 28 games starting 11 of them this season.
