McLeod was drafted by the Atlanta Hawks in the 1st round (20th pick, 20th overall)of the 1998 NBA Draft out of Duke University. He played with the Hawks till February 22, 2001 when he was traded to the Philadelphia 76ers. The 76ers traded him to the Boston Celtics on August 3, 2001. In the 2001–02 season, he was permanently injured and unable to play. Due to this injury, he had to prematurely end his career.
