Johnson was drafted by the New York Yankees in the 3rd round of the 1996 MLB June Amateur Draft from McClatchy HS (Sacramento, CA). He made his MLB debut on August 21, 2001 vs the Texas Rangers. He played with the Yankees till he was traded by the Yankees in December 2003 to the Montreal Expos. He played with the Expos/ Washington Nationals till he was traded in July 2009 to the Florida Marlins. He was granted free agency at the end of the 2009 season. Johnson played with the New York Yankees again in 2010 and the Baltimore Orioles in 2011.
